Samantha "Sam" Vernon, is portrayed by Samantha Birch, and one of Bernard's Friends making her first appearance in the series 5 episode Changing Times. She likes acting and helps Bernard whenever she can. It is implied that Bernard met her prior to series 5 and he returns to England to see her. She finds out about the watch in A Very Important Time in which she prevents it from getting damaged after which Bernard lets her borrow it occasionally. In Doing Time she is revealed to be Bernard's future wife, when he sees his future in his life file in the Postman's van, although possible romantic feelings between them have previously been hinted in her first appearance.
